Melville Theatre presents:
The Chairs by Eugène Ionesco
 Directed by Virginia Moore Price
ABOUT THE PLAY:
Eugène Ionesco’s The Chairs is a poetic, absurdist masterpiece—a tragic farce filled with haunting beauty, surreal comedy, and deep emotional truth. An elderly couple prepares for a mysterious gathering, filling their home with invisible guests and long-forgotten dreams. As their story unfolds, so does a meditation on memory, futility, and the desperate need to be heard.
This production will be visually bold, drawing on circus and vaudeville aesthetics, with an emphasis on physicality, precision, and theatrical illusion. The style is abstract, expressive, and rhythm-driven.
